
On the blow molder, the heating tunnel is where the cycle starts—and where it can fall apart. If the preform heat starts drifting, you’ll see uneven wall thickness, blown gates, and scrap that hits you twice: wasted resin and lost uptime. The voltage controller on the PET heaters is the one place you can actually lock repeatability into the process.
What matters, technically
We size the voltage controller to the emitter and the machine’s power architecture. On quartz halogen and short-wave infrared heaters used in PET stretch blow molding, the controller has to deliver stable voltage with low ripple so filament temperature stays steady. The specs that count: input voltage range, output resolution, thermal response time, and protection—over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit. It also has to play nice with the hardware already in the tunnel. That means compatibility with common lamp bases and connectors—R7s, mogul ends—and a physical fit into the existing mounting and wiring on Sidel, Krones, SIPA, Husky, SACMI, and Nissei ASB machines.
Why this is where you gain control
When heat behaves predictably, you can run faster without gambling. Tight voltage control makes preform heating repeatable shot-to-shot, which cuts down brittleness in the parison and tightens bottle weight distribution. The payoff is fewer rejects, less regrind, and fewer operator calls to make band-aid adjustments. Energy use drops when the controller holds setpoint without overshoot, and lamp life stretches because current surges are limited at start-up and during line changes.You end up with stable output at the same line speed—or higher—with less scrap.
What to watch for on install
Installation is straightforward, but before you swap controllers, verify the machine’s control interface and the heater bank’s total load. Match the controller’s current rating to the lamps and the existing cable gauge; a mismatch will trip breakers or give you hot terminations. In humid wash-down areas, confirm the enclosure rating and do proper grounding and strain relief. If your line runs frequent format changes, set the controller’s ramp and soak profiles to match the preform material and color, and keep a log of voltage and temperature trends for ongoing validation.
