
Stop Waiting on Your Oven to Warm Up
If you’ve ever used a traditional deck oven, you know the drill. You turn it on, go grab a coffee, maybe start some prep, and you’re still waiting for that heavy stone to actually get hot. It’s a slog. We decided to fix that by swapping out the old-school setup for quartz heating tubes. Instead of heating the air and hoping for the best, these tubes use infrared radiation to shoot heat straight into the dough and the oven floor. It’s fast. Really fast. We’re talking seconds, not twenty minutes of staring at a cold oven. How it actually works Here is the thing: most heating elements waste a lot of time just warming up the air around them. Quartz is different. The tungsten filament inside hits its peak temperature almost the instant you flip the switch. Because it reacts so quickly, we can use something called PWM control to dial the heat up or down on the fly. You aren’t stuck blasting the entire oven at max temp during a slow Tuesday afternoon, which saves you a decent chunk of change on your power bill. The nitty-gritty on hardware We use high-purity fused quartz for the tubes because it can handle the “thermal shock”—basically, it won’t crack when you jump from cold to screaming hot in a few seconds. Depending on your power setup, we’ll tweak the voltage to make sure you’re getting the right amount of punch per inch. If you’re building a big array of these, just make sure you use a dedicated controller to keep things steady. One quick tip: watch your connectors. We stick with R7s or other heavy-duty bases because cheap connectors tend to arc or burn out when you’re pushing this much current. A few things to keep in mind Now, this isn’t magic; there are a couple of trade-offs. These tubes put out a massive amount of heat, which is great for your preheat time, but it’s tough on your wiring. Double-check that your wire gauge can handle the peak amperage, or you’re asking for trouble. Also, remember that quartz is basically glass. It’s brittle. If your oven chassis shakes or shifts when you’re loading heavy trays, you’ll want some solid supports in place so the tubes don’t snap.
