
Why Mirror Infrared Heaters Actually Work
Let’s be honest: there is nothing worse than stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing, drafty bathroom. It’s a shock to the system. How the Heat Happens
Inside the unit, there’s a quartz halogen tube with a high-density tungsten filament. When you flip the switch, that filament hits its peak temperature in a fraction of a second. It’s fast. Really fast. The quartz casing is there to make sure that heat gets out without getting trapped. But the real secret is the “mirror”—that parabolic reflector behind the tube. It isn’t there to look pretty. It grabs the heat that would normally drift off toward the walls and beams it straight down at you. Without it, you’d be wasting about half your energy heating the drywall.
The Nitty-Gritty Stuff
Most of these run on 220V-240V, usually pulling between 400W and 1200W per tube. Now, here’s the trade-off: more wattage means you feel the heat even faster, but it puts more pressure on your home’s electrical system. You’ll want to make sure your wiring is up to the task so you aren’t tripping breakers every time you want to get warm. We also use spring-loaded R7s connectors. They keep everything tight and secure, which means no sparking or flickering if the unit shifts a bit over time.
A Few Tips for Installation
These are designed to slide right into where a standard mirror cabinet would go. But a word of caution: the heat is intense. Don’t mount them right next to cheap plastics or glues that might melt. And keep the mirror clean. It sounds simple, but dust and water spots actually scatter the infrared rays. If the reflector is dirty, the heat doesn’t hit you as effectively, and you’ll find yourself cranking up the power just to feel the same level of warmth. Keep it shiny, and it’ll keep you warm.
