
Making Bathroom Heaters That Don’t Blind You
Let’s be honest: bathroom heaters have a tricky job. You want them to blast enough heat to warm up a damp, chilly room in seconds, but you don’t want to feel like you’re staring into the sun while you’re brushing your teeth. Most standard infrared lamps have this harsh, aggressive glare. It’s annoying for adults, and it’s actually a real concern for babies and kids whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. Fixing the glare We figured out a way to tweak the light without losing the heat. Instead of just letting raw radiation fly, we use special quartz glass and internal coatings. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the lamp. It blocks out those piercing blue lights and UV rays but lets the cozy, long-wave infrared heat slide right through. You end up with a soft, warm glow. You feel the heat on your skin immediately, but your eyes aren’t fighting for their lives. Dealing with the steam Water and electricity? Not a great mix. Since these live in the “splash zone,” we wrap everything in IP-rated housings to keep steam away from the electrical guts. We also use high-temp seals. If we used cheap rubber, the constant heating and cooling would just warp the seals, and then you’ve got a leak. To get the room warm in under two minutes, these units pull a lot of power. This is where you have to be careful with your wiring. If you try to push all that wattage through thin wires in a humid room, you’re going to run into voltage drops or, worse, a burnt-out system. The trade-off When we filter the light for safety, the heat feels a bit different. It’s not that “stinging” sensation you get from an industrial halogen lamp. It’s more of a diffused, gentle warmth. For a bathroom, that’s exactly what you want. It keeps the air cozy without making your skin feel like it’s overheating.
