
Why we put our bathroom heaters through the “torture chamber”
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, random water splashes, and those wild temperature swings when you jump from a cold floor into a hot shower. If you just put a standard infrared lamp in there, it’s going to die. Fast. That’s why we don’t just “hope” our heaters work. We build them to an IPX5 rating and put every single batch through a brutal damp-heat aging test.
Keeping the water out
When you see “IPX5,” it basically means the unit can take a jet of water from pretty much any angle and not blow a fuse. To make that happen, we focus on the danger zones—specifically where the wiring hits the quartz tube. We use high-temp silicone gaskets and reinforced housings to create a wall between the moisture and the electrical terminals. Why bother? Because if water hits those terminals while the heater is running, the thermal shock can crack the quartz or cause an arc flash. And nobody wants that in their bathroom.
Finding the breaking point
We don’t just test one fancy prototype and call it a day. We take the actual units headed for your home and throw them into a climate chamber. We crank the humidity up to 95% and swing the temperature back and forth. It’s basically a sauna from hell. This forces moisture into any tiny, microscopic gap that might have been missed. We’re hunting for two big problems: rusty contact pins and insulation failure. If a seal is even slightly off, moisture creeps in. The pins corrode, resistance goes up, and the connection point starts to overheat. Eventually, the socket just burns out. By simulating months of bathroom steam in a few days, we find those flaws before the product ever leaves our warehouse.
The balancing act
Here’s the tricky part. If you seal a heater too tight to keep water out, you trap the heat inside. If we overdo the sealing, the internal electronics literally cook themselves. So, we found a middle ground. We use vented paths that let the air breathe, but we add “labyrinth” baffles to block water from getting a straight shot inside. You get the waterproof protection you need, but the wiring stays cool. Everyone wins.
