
On the blow molding line, the heating tunnel is where the whole process either holds together or falls apart. When an IR lamp underperforms, it doesn’t just give you uneven heating—you see it on the bottle. PET wall thickness starts drifting, the shoulder goes brittle, or the heel is too weak to pass pressure testing. That’s why the spare you run has to bring the machine back to its original thermal behavior, not just throw light.
What matters, technically
We build replacement IR lamps as engineered emitters, not commodity bulbs. Each unit is defined by power density, voltage, and filament layout so the heating curve matches the preform wall thickness and the material grade. Short-wave quartz halogen elements give you fast response and tight control over preform surface temperature, which keeps the temperature gradient across the preform predictable. The quartz tube is chosen for high thermal shock resistance and stable emissivity, so output doesn’t sag early in life. We size the lamp to the blow molder’s heating zone geometry, so power matching keeps the thermal field even and prevents hot spots that can cause crystallization or cold marks.
Why this matters on the line
In stretch blow molding, the preform has to be heated uniformly before stretching. With the right lamp, you restore the intended penetration heating profile, which stabilizes stretch ratio and cuts scrap from off-center wall distribution. The faster ramp-up also trims cycle time, and you get lower energy per part because the infrared conversion is efficient. Across Sidel, Krones, SIPA, Husky, SACMI, and Nissei ASB machines, matching the OEM’s lamp envelope, mounting, and wiring means you can drop the replacement in and run without retuning the heating tunnel.
The practical details
Installation is straightforward, but alignment is everything. Even a small offset shifts the heat map and can drive thickness variation. Verify connector type (commonly R7s), lamp length, and end seal orientation against your machine model, and check the reflector—pitting or oxidation scatters heat and wastes energy. Plan replacement around the lamp’s rated hours so you don’t get sudden output loss that forces an emergency stop.
