Getting Your Sidel Matrix Heating Just Right
Here is the problem when you swap out OEM lamps in a Sidel Matrix oven: the temperature profile loves to shift. If the infrared spectrum or wattage density is even a tiny bit off, you’re in trouble. You’ll start seeing uneven wall thickness or that annoying pearlescence in your PET bottles. It’s a headache nobody wants. That’s why we build our custom lamps to mirror the factory specs exactly. Why “Close Enough” Isn’t Good Enough
Matching a lamp is about way more than just the length. We obsess over the voltage and wattage because the heat flux per millimeter has to be a dead ringer for the original. For a Sidel Matrix, we calibrate the filament tension and coil pitch to hit that exact same radiant intensity. Think about it this way: if the wattage is off by just 5%, your whole heating curve moves. Suddenly, you’re spending hours rewriting oven profiles. That’s just wasted production time you can’t afford.
The Nitty-Gritty: Materials and Fit
We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because it can handle the thermal shock of rapid cycling without cracking. As for the fit, we use drop-in connectors—usually R7s or SK15. You just wire them up to your existing sockets and you’re done. No modifications, no drilling, no fuss. We also lean heavily into the halogen cycle to stop the filament from thinning out and burning out too fast. Now, shortwave IR is the standard here because it sinks into the PET preform quickly. But keep in mind, high-wattage tubes create an incredible amount of heat. Check your fans. Make sure your oven’s airflow and cooling fans are actually clean. If the cooling fails, your lamp housing will overheat, and it won’t matter how well the lamp was built.
