
Getting Your Husky HyPET Heating Right
If you’ve spent any time on a production floor, you know the struggle. Trying to get a PET preform to heat evenly while the line is screaming along at top speed is basically a race against the clock. The problem is that standard IR lamps usually just hit the surface. The core stays cold, and you end up with bottles that have uneven walls or, worse, structural failures that scrap your whole run. We figured out a better way by tweaking the spectral output of the lamps to actually “speak the same language” as the PET material.
How we get the heat to stick
Most people think the answer is just cranking up the wattage. Trust me, don’t do that. All that does is scorch the outside of the plastic while the inside stays frozen. We use short-wave infrared instead. By tightening the tungsten coil pitch and using high-purity quartz, we push the energy deeper. It’s the difference between a heat lamp that just warms your skin and one that actually soaks into the bone. The heat goes through the plastic instead of just bouncing off.
The gear under the hood
These are designed as drop-in replacements for your Krones or Husky setups. No fancy modifications needed. We used reinforced electrodes because high-speed lines are brutal—the constant rapid cycling usually burns out standard lamps. Plus, the quartz glass is treated so it doesn’t crack when the power spikes. One thing we’re obsessive about: the fit. If a lamp isn’t seated perfectly in the socket, you get arcing. It’s a nightmare. That’s why we use precision-ground ends. When you wire them up, they just click in flush. No gaps, no sparks.
A quick heads-up on the heat
There is a trade-off here. When you’re pushing this much energy to keep up with high cycle rates, your oven is going to get hot. Really hot. Check your cooling blowers. If your airflow is weak, you’re asking for trouble. You might overheat the machine frame or warp your reflectors, and once those reflectors go, your efficiency goes right down the drain with them. Keep the air moving, and you’re golden.
