
Getting Heat Where it Actually Matters: Better Lamps for Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. You’re trying to get the heat deep into the core of a thick-walled preform, but the surface is already starting to scorch. It’s a frustrating balancing act. That’s exactly why we built our replacement lamps for Sacmi and Husky systems. We wanted to stop the surface burn and actually hit the center. The trick is in the wavelengths. Most standard IR lamps just dump too much energy right on the outer skin. We tweaked the spectral output to shift toward longer wavelengths. Think of it as a “soak” rather than a “sear.” The energy travels deeper into the PET, giving you a much more even temperature from the outside in. No more annoying cold spots. No more weird wall thickness variations or that cloudy “pearlescence” that ruins a bottle. Built for the actual shop floor. These are simple drop-in replacements. We kept the footprint and electrical load exactly the same as the original Husky specs, so you aren’t guessing during install. We use high-purity quartz glass because, let’s be honest, the thermal shock of rapid cycling kills cheap glass. And we didn’t forget the connectors. Whether you’re running R7s or SK15 bases, we reinforced the contact points. Why? Because high-vibration environments tend to shake pins loose or cause arcing. We made sure these stay put. A quick heads-up on the trade-off. Here’s the thing: when you push more energy into the preform to shave time off your cycle, your lamp housing takes a hit. It gets hot. You’ve got to keep your forced-air cooling systems clean. If your blowers are choked with dust, the heat builds up in the cavity and your tubes will burn out way faster than they should. Keep them clean, and the lamps will last. Getting them running. Since these are built for the HyPET system, you don’t have to mess with your controllers or rewire a thing. Just swap out the burnt-out tubes, double-check your voltage, and start your profile. You’ll notice a more consistent melt and—best of all—way fewer rejects while you’re ramping up.
